Today we have selected Christopher Coleman to take his interview. He is a Partner of MjSeo Agency.
First of all, how are you and your team doing in these COVID-19 times?
Thank you for inviting me for an interview! I caught COVID-19 this spring, but I was lucky — my experience did not include any debilitating symptoms. By the end of summer, I was fully vaccinated. Almost all members of our team have got the jab, too.
When we work in the office, we try to follow all the recommended precautions regarding handwashing, surface disinfection, etc. One of the advantages of working in SEO is that you can start and finish at different times and work from any convenient location. Our employees can work from home when they need to. Overall, the pandemic has not brought any dramatic changes to our work. The biggest difference is that offline meetings are now rare.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded or joined this company?
I have been professionally involved in digital marketing for over 6 years — I live and breathe it. After studying at the university, I started working at a digital marketing agency for companies in the USA. Then I started to become interesting in the cannabis niche. I have watched this market for 3 years, and it has grown tremendously! Then I met SeoProfy company, and we created the MjSeo agency together.
In 2020, our team was approached by a company whose business involved selling cannabis seeds. We helped them find their first customers via Google. While researching this industry, we realized that it is a fascinating field.
Strangely, many providers are not creating online revenue streams. They build websites but ignore organic search. As Google Ads are out of the question, they linger somewhere at the bottom of the SERPs, where nobody sees them. The decision to create a separate team for cannabis SEO was only logical. This is how MjSeo Agency was born. Our mission is to help these businesses get to the top positions in Google.
How does your company innovate?
During the first years of the pandemic, we created more teams and hired more project managers. Our business is growing rapidly, as the new normal has boosted the demand for high-quality SEO. We are expanding our online presence.
Our methods are fairly standard. When we assess a new project, we explain to our clients how Google works, how companies get ranked, and how they, as business owners, can get a steady influx of clients. Then, we do our best to help them rise to the top.
How the Coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
As I have said, our company is growing vigorously. More and more businesses in the cannabis market realize that a website is a must and need to get to the top of organic search to attract users. Otherwise, how are their potential customers supposed to discover their stores?
Every day, consumers go online to find and compare products and services. This is happening all the time. If your company has built a website and is now live, do not expect your clients to find you magically. This is where MjSeo gets in the game. We are helping companies readjust their business during the pandemic and make the most of the online space.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
I cannot say our company was faced with some daunting choices. However, our clients had to make difficult decisions. They had to find ways to keep their businesses, continue making money, and generally survive in the new normal. These companies had to adapt and do it quickly. They had to find new sources of profit to stay afloat. We have always supported them in these turbulent times.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
No groundbreaking changes here. As a professional SEO agency, we constantly use task management tools. We have created these systems ourselves, and they meet all of our needs. In addition, we work with different SEO software, such as Link checker.pro, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, Majestic, etc.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
The SEO market is fiercely competitive. We have a lot of rivals, but some of them lack competence. My team and I have looked at other companies’ websites, and some of them are not even in the Google Top 10! Selling SEO services when your site is low in the SERPs is ridiculous. You cannot expect an agency to optimize its platform to push other companies’ websites to the top.
We know who our strongest competitors are, but the cannabis industry in the US is colossal! There is enough space for us and other strong agencies. The most important thing is to provide high-quality services and products.
Your final thoughts
For some people, the blame is always on someone else. They can say that the pandemic, the government, competitors, or parents are responsible for their failures. This is a toxic mindset. If the quality of your product or service is high, no pandemics should scare you. They will change your life, but not destroy it.
On behalf of the MjSeo Agency team, I wish all the best to the readers of The Advertising Review and its team. If you need to get to the Top 10, we are always here to help you!
