We’re going to walk you through A bunch of tips and tricks to master Apple’s latest over-the-ear headphones. Now bear with us if you know some of these things. Some of these are maybe more beginner tips, but we guarantee that people out there don’t know them, and this is going to be aimed at helping you grasp the true workings of Apple Headphones. Hopefully, even if you know some of the basics, there’s something in here that we still teach you. So let’s Go ahead and dive into tips and tricks with the Air Pods Max.
Digital Crown And its Functionality
So, the first thing we want to discuss is the general good tip for these headphones. This is one that a lot of you may already know understanding the Digital Crown and what it can do. So basically, that is one of your primary physical controls of these headphones. Now everything that the Digital Crown does, you can do elsewhere.
- You can change the volume on your headphones by using that digital crown on your Apple Watch.
- You can skip songs again via your phone, your Apple Watch, via Siri.
- You can adjust the volume the same way.
- You can invoke Siri just by saying that well-known key phrase to invoke Apple digital assistant.
But for those who want that physical control or you don’t want to use your voice because you’re on a plane or something, physical control. You need to have so that is located on your right ear cup, so on your head back here on that right-hand side.
1. Functions
- You can go ahead and press that once to pause or play your track.
- Press it again to pause or un-pause or to play the track that you’re listening to.
- You can double-tap it and skip to the next song.
- Triple-clicking the button takes the song backward.
- Holding it down will bring up Siri.
- Of course, you can rotate it around and that’s going to adjust your volume up and down along the lines of that digital crown.
2. Hidden Setting
There’s a kind of hidden setting section for the Air Pods Max. Now it’s really that hidden, but a lot of people just don’t know it’s there. The same hidden settings apply to the regular Air Pods and Air Pods Pro as well.
- On your iPhone, go into the Settings app.
- Find Bluetooth and then look for your Air Pods Max in that list of items.
- Now make sure that it says Connected.
- You want to have these connected to your phone when you’re trying to do this.
- Then tap on that little eye icon just to the right.
- You can go down, and find that list and there’s an option for the Digital Crown.
If you go to that Digital Crown setting, you can adjust which way your Digital Crown rotates to adjust volume. So, the default way seems counterintuitive to you. You can reverse that easily from within that hidden settings panel.
Disabling The Automatic Head Detection
That settings panel is also where you can disable the automatic head detection, so Apple has a few little hidden sensors inside of the ear cup that detect when the Air Pods Max is over your head. You can go ahead and turn that feature off because what it does by default, whenever you take the headphones off, it’ll automatically pause whatever content it is that you’re listening to, whether you’re watching a movie, and that even includes on your Apple TV.
If you lift an ear cup or take the headphones off, it’ll automatically pause. Some people don’t like that. They want that content to continue playing.
- That feature can be disabled and so it’s just a simple toggle.
- On your iPhone, go into the Settings app.
- Find Bluetooth and then look for your Air Pods Max in that list of items.
- Now make sure that it says Connected.
- You want to have these connected to your phone when you’re trying to do this.
- Then tap on that little eye icon just to the right.
- then toggle off automatic head detection.
The last thing we want to look at in that settings, panel is turning off automatic switching.
Automatic Device Switching Turn-Off Method
Now, one of Apple’s kind of big features with its headphones is the ability to automatically switch devices with your headphones. So, if you’re on your iPhone, and listening to music move over to your iPad and start playing music there.
Your headphones will eventually switch over with you. You are now listening to your Air Pods Max over on the iPads and if your phone rings you can go ahead and answer the call and again your headphones are going to switch right back over to your phone and it even works over on your Mac.
It’s handy when it works, but some people may find this annoying. They don’t want their head when they switch over automatically to their different devices every time, and they’d rather do that manually. Fortunately, it’s easy not to change this as well.
- Inside of Settings.
- There’s a little option there for when it automatically connects to that device.
- So, if we want to change this, we can turn it off only when it was last connected to this device.
That way it’ll only reconnect your iPhone if it was last connected to your iPhone when it was last turned off. That prevents it from switching from your iPad to your iPhone to your iPad and back again.
1. Charging Light Indicator
You’ll see the charging port underneath that right ear cup, right next to that charging port, aside from the microphone, is a tiny little pinhole LED, and it can be helpful to understand what that LED means when it changes different colors. There’s one big use for this LED and that’s getting the charging status of your headphones, especially when your phone is not around.
2. Plugged in Indicator
So, if your Air pods Max are connected to power and you press on that noise control toggle button. It will flash green if your battery is above 95%. If it’s below 95% and it’s plugged in, it’ll go ahead and flash amber or red. The idea is that you are plugged in, and you want to know if your headphones are pretty much fully charged. Unless it is charged above 95%, it’s going to tell you that it is still charging and it’s going to flash you that amber color.
3. Unplugged Indicator
Now if you were unplugged, unplugged from power, and you press that button. It’s going to flash green if it is above 15% of your battery life, and if it is unplugged from power anywhere below 15%, then it’s going to flash amber letting you know that you are low. Unpowered and probably best to charge your Air Pods Max.
4. Rebutting Air Pods
We are sure there will be times with the Air Pods Max, like almost any other tech gadget out there, that something is just not working correctly, and you may need to reboot it. Yeah, there are times when you may need to reboot your headphones and there is a way to pull this off. It’s very easy to do.
All you must do is hold the Digital Crown and that noise control toggle button together at the same time. Hold those for just a few moments and go ahead and restart your air pods, Max.
5. Announce Messages
Sometimes you get a text message, and you don’t realize it came in. Well, Apple has a feature called Announce Messages with Siri. It only works with a limited set of headphones, namely Apple’s headphones that are using its proprietary wireless chips. So, it works with Air Pods and Air Pods Pro, but it also works with other Air Pod types.
While you’re wearing the headphones, Siri will announce any messages that come in and read them to you, and you’re instantly able to respond. So, if your wife sends me a text saying, are you recording audio right now? you can go ahead and respond right away.
Siri will send that message off. It’ll even send it off without even having you confirm the message if you prefer. It’s very easy just how well the setting is on and off. It can be even done from within the Control Center.
- If you add the announced Messages with Siri toggle to Control Center from within Settings.
- You can go ahead and swipe down to the Control Center.
- Tap that to turn it on or off for your Air pods Max.
6. Audio
Let’s talk about sharing audio. Sharing audio is a great feature and one that we love with our regular Air pods gives you the old-school version of being able to plug in two sets of headphones into one phone or sharing an earbud to listen to the same music.
Now we’ve been able to do that with Air Pods for a while, but we can now do it with the Air Pods Max as well. It is so easy to pull off. So, say you’re listening to music, watching a movie, listening to a podcast, or anything like that. And your Friend wants to listen as well.
- If you go into the Control, Center right below your Air pods Max that are connected, it’ll say share audio.
- If you go ahead and tap on that and bring a second set of Air Pods Max nearby or bring over a set of Air Pods, Air Pods Pro works like Beats headphones.
- You bring those nearby. They will show up on the screen.
- You can tap on them and instantly share audio with another person.
You can listen to audio at the same time. You can both watch the movie together. Listen to the podcast together, listen to music together, whatever it is. It’s a great feature, being able to share audio with a second person if they’ve got a set of compatible headphones, Air Pods, Air Pods Pro, and other Air Pods Max or Beats headphones.
Removable Ear Cups And Headband
So the build. The quality of the airport Max is amazing, and you probably already know that you can. With these ear cups, thanks to the magnetic design, what’s great about this is if there’s some wear and tear on your ear cups, you can go ahead and buy your brand-new pair and they come in these different colors.
But now what you may not have known is that this little hole right over the top after removing the cups allows you to remove the headband from the speakers by using a symmetric tool. So, you just pop it in there, you’ll feel the click, and above them just like that the speakers have been removed from the headband, which is so cool and the reason that this is so. Epic.
It’s because this might indicate that Apple will allow you in the future to replace the headband if there’s any damage. It may even be that third-party companies start making cool custom headbands for us to accessorize with and try out.
1. Remote Device Audio Access
Now here’s a pretty cool little sneaky feature that you can do with the Air Pods Max. So, if you head into the Control Center settings and scroll down until you see this hearing option make sure you toggle on South that it’s added to your main Control Center and then we’re heading over to the Control Center.
You’ll see it right over here and if you click and hold then tap live listen what this does is it picks up the audio from your iPhone’s microphone and then what you can do is place It’s sneaky, Just be careful if you ever see any iPhones lying around.
2. Find My Air Pods
One of the worst feelings is losing all this tracing your tech. So, if that ever happens with your Air pods, head on over to the Find My application, click on your Air pods Max, and then run over here you will see the option that says place down. Then of course just listen out to see if you can hear your Air pods. But also, do keep in mind that this will only work, and you will only hear a sound if your air pods are out of the smart case.
3. Spatial Audio
One of the coolest experiences that you must try with these is the spatial audio, which is pretty amazing. You do have to make sure this is activated, so head on over to the Bluetooth settings and click on this little info icon next to your Air Pods Max.
Then Scroll down and right over here you will see the Spatial audio toggle. Tap on that and if you click here, it’ll show you how it works. There is a very big difference between stereo audio and spatial audio, and the best way to explain this is,
Usually, if you turn your head, the music will follow you just like this, but with spatial audio, it sounds as though you’re in the room where the audio was recorded which gives the sound so much depth and dimension. You can also easily access the spatial audio just by hitting the volume settings within the Control Center and right up there. You can toggle it on or off.
Conclusion
Finally, there are a ton of different audio quality settings that you can customize when it comes to the sound of your Airpods Max, under Accessibility in Settings, you’ll see Airpods and then select. Your Air Pods Max and right over here are a couple of simple settings, but if you click on Audio accessibility settings you can customize a bunch more things and then from there even though into headphone accommodations and customize even more settings.
I did this myself and found it to make quite a difference and so. Very useful. If all that is not enough, you can even do a custom audio setup with a brunch you through a hearing test to make sure you have the best audio setup at the end of the day when it comes to your Air pods Max.
