Apple is ready to roll out its highly anticipated Vision Pro headset on the 2nd of February 2024 in the United States. Apple is now taking a giant leap into the spatial computing field. Now you see the world that no one sees it like before. According to the Company’s latest press release, The pre-orders for the $3,500 headset will start crazily on 19th January at 5 pm according to the Pacific Time.
If you are considering it just a fancy headset, then you are wrong, instead, it’s a portal to a whole new way of interacting with the world around you.
The Vision Pro, armed with 256 GB of storage and running on Apple’s M2 chip, is set to compete head-to-head with Meta’s Quest headsets. According to the latest press release of the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, Spatial computing has arrived that commits Apple to deliver immersive experiences to their users.
This venture represents Apple’s first foray into a new product category since the introduction of the Apple Watch in 2015. In 2023, at the World Developers Conference, the Vision Pro boasted an innovative VisionOS operating system and a versatile input system that will permit its users to control their headset with their body gestures like eyes, hands, and voice.
Now, you do not need to control your virtual reality set with the controller by using awkward hand gestures. The Vision pro responds to your eyes, hands, and voices which will let you navigate seamlessly through virtual spaces and interact with digital objects with an almost natural feel.
Although this VR set will be quite expensive with its premium price tag, it is estimated that it will bring a revenue of $1,4 billion.
This headset will give its user a whole new experience taking their users to a new dimension. The purpose of this headset is to engage with gaming and video content. Users can immerse themselves in a virtual reality screen, providing an expansive 100-feet-wide experience, and enjoy content from platforms like Apple TV+. Developers are also crafting spatial games specifically for this headset to exploit its virtual capabilities.
You can imagine this stepping into the virtual world where you are batting against your opponents. In short, it’s a whole new playground for interactive entertainment.
To build anticipation, Apple has released the first ad for the Vision Pro, titled “Get Ready.” Drawing inspiration from the iconic iPhone ad “Hello,” the commercial features clips from various movies and TV shows, portraying characters putting on goggles, helmets, and masks, aligning with Apple’s effort to make wearing the Vision Pro appear cool.
In a recent update, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts a Vision Pro-related announcement this week, with a targeted launch in February. Gurman notes that the device is already shipping in limited quantities to U.S. warehouses, aiming to have sufficient supply for a nationwide launch by the end of January.
Apple’s global strategy includes potential releases in China, Canada, and the UK shortly after the U.S. launch, expanding Vision Pro’s reach to international markets. This move aligns with Apple’s broader vision to establish a foothold in the growing virtual reality landscape.
The announcement also highlighted the compatibility of non-spatial games like NBA 2024 Arcade Edition and Sonic Dream Team, playable on the Vision Pro with popular game controllers. The press release reiterates the headset’s early 2024 release date, beginning at $3,499 for the 256GB model, with preorders set to commence on 19th January at 5 a.m. PST.
Despite earlier reports of production challenges leading to a scaled-back internal sales target, Apple remains determined to make a significant impact with the Vision Pro, setting the stage for a new era in spatial computing and virtual reality experiences.
