The Best Video Game Controller In 2024:
Video games are dynamic and fascinating sources of amusement immersed in the modern world. In the earliest days, when the roots of digital technology were primitive, have evolved from mottled visuals to convoluted, real-time virtual environments.
This digital medium has transformed how we ingest entertainment, communicate socially, and follow professional trends.
The landscape of video games is quite distinctive; technological innovations have empowered feasibility to establish eye-catching graphics and captivating gaming experiences that include numerous categories, from tactical games to action-adventure and multiplayer online games.
Besides absolute fascination, video games have a profound influence. Educational institutes have played a significant role in boosting participation and awareness by acknowledging games’ potential as learning tools.
Furthermore, social interactions and the formation of connections and bonds across the globe are revolutionized by online multiplayer games.
This social element has broadened the virtual world, where users can communicate and share experiences. The controller is an essential component that assists in developing a realistic gameplay experience.
The progression of video games controller has been alongside the evolution of video games.
The controllers have played an instrumental role, from the standard joystick and buttons of the Atari period to the modern-day controllers with anatomical designs, touch-sensitive screens, and gesture-control systems.
The implementation of wireless networking and tactile responses has enhanced the sense of realism and influence of the gameplay.
The Evolution Of Video Game Controllers:
Undoubtedly! A thrilling voyage through time, the evolution of video game controllers has been fueled by innovative breakthroughs and a continuously evolving technological landscape.
The development of video game controllers is a fantastic example of how functional design has advanced through time.
The controllers have gotten more complicated with each subsequent generation while also becoming more ergonomic and simpler to operate.
Over the years, the video game controller has had many different variations. The controller with a movement pad on the left side and many action buttons on the right side is the most recognizable and the one that comes to mind when you think of a typical video game controller.
These gamepads have seen constant improvement since their conception in 1985. This design was implemented on the Super NES and the original Nintendo console.
Joysticks were added to the gamepad in the middle of the 1990s, introducing analog control. In addition to its conventional gamepad components, the Nintendo 64’s 1996 controller had a centrally positioned joystick, making it one of the most recognizable.
The joystick was the best tool for the task as consoles became more popular and game genres evolved. Years before its time, the PlayStation introduced a dual analog controller in 1997. This paved the way for the ensuing two decades of controller development.
Later in 2001, the Xbox included an offset joystick setup that many found more logical. Nowadays, finding any game controller without the dual analogous configuration that the Sony PlayStation hyped is uncommon. In this visualization, multiple peripherals utilized for particular games are also included.
The most well-known, the Guitar Hero controller and Duck Hunt are utilized in the Nintendo Zapper.

- Victrix Pro BFG Wireless Controller
- Thrustmaster eSwap X Pro

- Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller
- Xbox Elite Series 2 Core
- DualSense Edge Wireless Controller
- Razer Wolverine V2 Pro

1. Victrix Pro BFG Wireless Controller:
Features And Design Highlights:
The design of this controller in any consistent state is more like a blank piece of art—something you tweak to your taste as you work on the optimal speedrun, a new milestone, or impressive teamwork.
The Victrix Pro BFG is versatile and adaptable like other best gaming controllers. You can easily swap out the foremost components with the attachments provided, according to your desires and gameplay requirements.
The controller features an incredible “Tournament Lock” mode and exquisite trigger blocks regulated by switches fitted at the back; this prevents unintentional button presses on the system during a competition that could end up in disqualification.
Game volume may be changed by holding down the function button on the front of the controller while using the up and down D-pad keys. Alternatively, you can use L1 and R1 to cycle through audio profiles while pressing the function button twice to silence yourself.
Specifications:
- It has a 3m long cable
- It weights 298g
- Both wireless (USB Dongle) and wired (USB-C to USB Cable) connections
- Up to twenty modular-designed buttons
- Four remappable buttons
Pros:
- Extensive modification choices
- Economical than other options
- Top-notch reliability and performance
- Compatible with PC, PS5, and PS4
Cons:
- No vibration (let alone haptics)
- A few minimal pairing challenges
2. Thrust master eSwap X Pro:
Features And Design Highlights:
Thrustmaster’s eSwap X Pro is considered an elite and upscale item, noticeable through the packaging and unwrapping of the box. Magnetic closure, posh black polystyrene with exclusive pores drilled into each part—it is elegantly crafted and gives off an aura of well looked after.
The eSwap X Pro is bulky and relatively big to hold straight out of the box, unlike other contenders of the epoch. Furthermore, it has a broader rudimentary unit or a central heart than the usual Xbox Pad or PlayStation controllers, which occupies quite a bit of it.
The arrangement and size are more Xbox-like, whereas the wings are slightly similar to PS5’s DualSense.
The integrated feature set, design, and swappable elements are enormous, satisfyingly composed, and effortlessly portable.
The small T-Bar tool allows you to change the layout of analog controls and D-Pads according to your preference and gameplay necessities; this feature is quite dramatic and quantifiable, making the controller stand out.
The facial buttons are immobile and gratifyingly fitted into a pad, although LB/RB buttons are incredibly impressive, quite loud, but great to click.
Correspondingly, LT/RT buttons are shaped exceptionally and easily altered with a slight switch touch.
Specifications:
- It has a 3m long cable
- It weights 329g
- Has a 3.5mm headset connection
- Wired connection
- Up to twenty-eight swappable buttons
- Fully remappable buttons
Pros:
- Numerous buttons and choices
- Exceptional control personalization and diversity
- No input lags
- High-quality design and construction
Cons:
- Relatively robust
- A mighty rumbling or vibration
3. GameSir T4 Kaleid:
Features And Design Highlights:
Nowadays, glassy controller designs are rare, even among the most excellent Nintendo Switch controllers. For gamers who don’t like the barebones, transparent chassis, very bright RGB lighting will be more appealing.
However, the transparency is fascinating, and it brings back memories of the translucent DualShock 2 controllers that were available for the PlayStation 2.
It’s incredible to feel a rumble in the controller’s grips and then look down to see the rotating gears visibly shaking within. The circuitry is also visible, although not completely. Additionally, two back buttons are on the T4 Kaleid’s textured grips.
These are precisely aligned to ensure utilizing them requires no movement from where hands are wrapped around the controller.
The offset or asymmetrical sticks are Hall Sensors, which may maybe the most obvious. The bulk of controller analog sticks employ a potentiometer mechanism; these employ sensors that require direct contact with the thumbstick to function.
This physical contact over time might cause the mechanism to deteriorate and lose accuracy, resulting in the bothersome stick drift. In contrast, Hall Effect Sensors use tiny magnets to detect the joystick’s movements without requiring physical contact between the stick and the sensor.
Specifications:
- It has a 2m long cable
- It weights 380g
- Wired USB-C to USB A connection
- Seventeen modular-designed buttons
- Two remappable buttons
- 3.5mm headset connection
Pros:
- Affordable value
- Hall effect sticks
- A touch-sensitive feel
- Two ergonomic rear buttons
Cons:
No Wi-Fi mode
- A few complex interface buttons
- Some issues with the turbo mode
4. Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller:
Features And Design Highlights:
The Xbox One Elite Series 2 has new textured grips extending up the controller’s sides, covering the controller’s wings fully. You won’t typically rest your finger on a smooth surface unless you push a button or paddle.
The grip design is low-key and does not appear resistant to damage or deterioration.
The swappable components—the paddles; the four- and eight-way D-Pads; and the patterned, smooth, and concentric analog sticks—return unmodified. They are swiftly swapped and magnetically locked in.
However, the analog sticks have a fresh twist underneath the replaceable nubs.
You may change the tension in the analog sticks by removing the analog sub and twisting a column inside the stick with the instrument provided in the box or a little screwdriver.
The Xbox Elite Series 2 controller now includes an internal battery with a 40-hour life.
The controller’s USB-C port, which has replaced the Micro-USB port that was previously there, can be used to charge it, or you can use the wireless charging dock that the gadget comes with.
It is straightforward to grab your controller when it’s time for a game and recharge it when you’re done, thanks to the dock’s tiny size and absence of visual clutter. Some improvements, such as a battery and supporting Bluetooth, feel more like modernization than upgrades, such as the second-generation Xbox One gamepad.
Specifications:
- 3.5mm Headset connection
- It weights 345g
- Wireless (USB Dongle) connection
- Up to twenty-seven buttons
- Fully remappable buttons
Pros:
- Wireless charging
- Incredible build quality
- Wired or wireless use
- Adjustable analog stick tension and trigger travel
- New system-level customization options
Cons:
- Very expensive
- Onboard memory only stores one profile
5. Xbox Elite Series 2 Core:
Features And Design Highlights:
The Xbox Elite Series 2 Core reduces the full-fat Elite Series 2 controller’s premium quality to a more reasonable price range. Apart from the noticeable color differences, it can be difficult to tell the fundamental distinctions between these two controllers at first glance.
The only real distinction between these two gamepads is the additional items wrapped with them.
Even the rubberized wrap-around grips, which are always comfy, are the same as those on the Elite Series 2 controller. The Elite Series 2 has a jet-black face area, whereas the Core model has a white face part. This is the primary visual difference between the two models.
This is a fantastic entry point into the Elite Series 2 for anyone who is a little annoyed by the price tag. It also features adjustable tension thumbsticks, a 40-hour battery life, three custom profiles, custom button plotting, and PC connectivity.
Since the battery life on offer here is nothing short of spectacular, this is a much more accessible and, in my opinion, much more practical solution than another standard controller for folks who desire an additional wireless controller for their Xbox.
The most impressive thing about the Xbox Elite Series is the incredible battery life you get for the price here. The battery life is comparable to that of the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro, and it can potentially surpass it.
Specifications:
- Lithium-ion internal pack power system
- Wireless connection
- Has 30-40 hours of battery life
Pros:
- Low-Cost for professional controller
- High-Quality feel
- Outstanding battery life
Cons:
- No attachments at all feel a little bit stingy.
6. DualSense Edge Wireless Controller:
Features And Design Highlights:
In recent memory, one of the most eagerly anticipated additions to the PlayStation ecosystem is probably the DualSense Edge. Sony has finally released a homegrown gamepad that aims to fully realize the potential of the DualSense after outsourcing the development of its professional controllers to officially authorized third parties for under ten years.
Although DualSense has received a lot of spotlights, it’s fair to argue that it hasn’t yet reached its maximum capability. Numerous reports of stick drift, poor battery life, and a lack of support from third-party titles have eclipsed haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and several other unique PS5 features. The DualSense Edge and the standard PS5 controller have remarkably similar looks.
However, it appears in the hand as a much heavier, more ergonomically designed gamepad. The two “function” buttons below the analog sticks may be the most visible. These function as hotkeys to quickly swap between controller profiles and other customizable profiles on the Edge.
There are two spaces for removable back buttons on the rear. The ability to replace the stick modules should stick drift become an issue, perhaps the feature that matters most. For those who have experienced stick drift problems, this might look like a God-faith builder, but I’m not sure it deserves credit.
Specifications:
- 3.5mm Headset connection
- 3m long cable
- Weighs 300g
- Wireless / USB-C connections
- Two remappable buttons
- Seventeen fixed buttons
- Has 30-40 hours of battery life
Pros:
- A DualSense that feels more high-end
- Ergonomic rear buttons
- Intelligent software integration
- Strong case
Cons:
- There are only two back buttons.
- For the same price, competitors offer more features.
- No genuine cure for stick drift or battery life
7. Razer Wolverine V2 Pro:
Features And Design Highlights:
In essence, Razer Wolverine V2 Pro revamped the Wolverine V2 Chroma, altered the face buttons, added a touchpad, and created something that matches the design of the PS5. Although the white model I tested was a bit of a dust magnet and easily marked from ordinary use, it is available in white and black or an all-black version.
The Wolverine V2 Pro ranks as the top PC controller because it is also PC-friendly. It can be operated wired or wirelessly using a threaded USB-C cable or a USB-A dongle with a high-speed 2.4GHz wireless link.
Everything is adjusted using the Razer Controller mobile app, which is a little tricky to link to but is incredibly useful once you are there.
Strangely enough, a Sensitivity Clutch feature is intended for specific game situations where you want to increase or decrease stick sensitivity. Using this with PC games that don’t have a lot of gamepad support could be helpful.
In contrast to other PlayStation controllers outside of Razer’s selection, the Wolverine V2 Pro is a hefty controller.
It recalls the Nacon Revolution Unlimited in that aspect, though if you’re used to something like the Razer Raiju Tournament Edition, that will be a closer connection.
The stick caps’ breadth is another aspect I genuinely enjoy. Although there isn’t an attachment for a more imposing stick, these feel like sumo wrestlers of the analog stick world and are simple to use for precision movement and aiming.
Specifications:
- 3.5mm Headset connection
- 3m long cable
- Weighs 279g
- 2.4GHz Wireless and USB-C connections
- Six remappable buttons
- Up to twenty-one fixed buttons
Pros:
- Six additional buttons
- A huge controller
- Broad thumbsticks
- Long battery life
Cons:
- Poor positioning of the back button
- No vibration
- Expensive
- Absence of a carry case
8. Xbox Wireless Controller:
Features And Design Highlights:
Thanks to subtle design changes, a more significant percentage of the population can now use the Xbox Series X controller without discomfort; this doesn’t mean that the whole thing has been made smaller or lighter;
According to my assessment, it’s roughly the same size and weight as the Xbox One controller. Instead, it means specific components have been subtly scaled back for ergonomics.
A soft, tactile texture effect has been added to the grips after they were reshaped. The result is a controller that should hopefully withstand the scrutiny of extended play sessions and sweaty hands, a consideration also considered in the matte-black finish applied to the pad’s surface.
The triggers and bumpers have also changed, each smaller and re-angled from previous Xbox controller iterations.
In terms of triggers, they are a little shorter than previously. However, they seem more profound; for example, it takes more effort to induce progressive despair. The Impulse and Rumble motors, located inside the triggers and grips of the chassis, function similarly and are a carryover from earlier Xbox One controller models.
Dynamic Latency Input, designed to cut latency between the controller and console to only 2ms, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for more straightforward pairing with PC, Android, and iOS devices are two of the controller’s new technological features. It’s hard not to be immediately impressed with the Xbox Series X controller’s industrial appearance.
Specifications:
- 3.5mm Headset connection
- Weighs 287g
- Wireless connection
- Eighteen immobile buttons
Pros:
- Wired and Wi-Fi functionality
- Native compatibility
- Exquisite feel
Cons:
- Very similar to the Xbox One gamepad
9. Thrustmaster eSwap XR Pro:
Features And Design Highlights:
The Thrustmaster eSwap XR Pro Controller offers a lot of appealing features. But, you can choose between a stunning design that draws inspiration from Forza Horizon 5, an update to one of the best modular controllers on the market, a mini steering wheel that proves it is more than just a novelty, excellent bumpers, and some absolute comfort if your hands are more extensive than average and you prefer a more extended controller.
However, most of its gamepads are toolless, so you can grab a thumbstick, remove it from one slot, and insert it into another. Only three of the four modular blocks in this controller are truly moveable, limiting their flexibility. The D-pad must be lifted out using a little tool because the face buttons are fastened into position.
If you have another compatible set, you can swap out the triggers, but you will also need the included little multitool for this. The Thrustmaster eSwap XR Pro Controller is one of those gamepads that never runs out of functionality.
Because it is primarily intended for Xbox, it is interoperable with the Series X and S and may function as an Xbox One controller.
Its face buttons are the conventional A, X, Y, and B because it is also adaptable to the most incredible gaming PCs. It also features buttons for choices, sharing, and the in-game menu, all supported by the Xbox Home button in the center.
The Thrustmaster eSwap XR Pro has convenient utility buttons for adjusting headset volume and switching controller profiles below the facial modules and a 3.5mm connector for connecting one of the highest-quality gaming headsets.
Instead of the grips, the back side of the controller has four small, round rear buttons incorporated into the controller’s body. They are awkward to use due to their placement and small size, and while your grip may be different, I found that my middle fingers provided the most comfort when using them.
The “4” and “3” buttons have a lovely slanted edge, which made them slightly more usable, which was a bummer. Because of their small size, slip-offs were a frequent inconvenience.
Specifications:
- 3.5mm Headset connection
- 3m long cable
- Weighs 329g
- Wired connection
- Up to Twenty-Eight swappable buttons
Pros:
- Racing wheel is great fun to use
- Excellent for driving games
- Modular design
Cons:
- Poor back buttons
- No wireless connectivity
10. Turtle Beach React-R:
Features And Design Highlights:
The Turtle Beach React-R is available in color schemes: all-black, white, and purple. Except for the little orange accents surrounding the “React-R” branding at the top, the former is quite ordinary yet appears streamlined and expensive when placed on a desk.
Cheaper third-party controllers frequently have a flashy appearance with odd proportions or shrunken sizes.
Turtle Beach has consistently kept this issue at bay with its gamepads, and the React-R is no exception. It sits well-balanced, has a typical grip size, and has regular button spacing.
The back paddles, shoulder buttons, and grips have textured plastic grip surfaces that offer stability even in the most stressful circumstances.
Although they are sadly removed here, the rubberized grips on the Recon model were something we truly liked. This was probably done to keep the price as low as possible.
The rough plastic maintains its nerve nicely and never gives the impression of being dramatically sacrificed. This texture didn’t feel excessively abrasive during overextended sessions because it was less noticeable on the triggers and bumpers and still provided a solid grip.
It’s great to see a low-cost gamepad paying such close attention to detail because I don’t often see controllers delivering this level of tactility on either shoulder buttons or rear paddles. In realistic terms, it merely increases the volume of some ranges while compressing others, distorting some of the audio quality.
It is only intended to be utilized in brief bursts at a time, but it is nice to have in some competitive settings.
Although I didn’t rely on it heavily during my everyday play, Turtle Beach could have easily removed the feature if they aimed for a budget controller price point. The Turtle Beach React R’s back is where the natural beauty is.
The two paddles are some of the best-feeling clickers I’ve ever held; they’re bigger than those on budget Xbox controllers like the PowerA Spectra Infinite or Enhanced Wired models and are consequently easier (and more pleasant) to press consistently.
Additionally, it is quick and easy to map various functions to these paddles while playing the game. You may reassign a button by double-tapping the D-Pad shifter button, clicking the paddle, and pressing the new button.
Specifications:
- 3.5mm Headset connection
- 2.5m long cable
- Weighs 271g
- Wired connection
- Up to Twenty-Three swappable buttons
Pros:
- Grippy texture
- Well-balanced and spaced
- On-the-fly remapping
- Smooth movement
- Modular design
Cons:
- Poor back buttons
- No rubberized grip on the Recon model
- Bumpers feel slightly hollow
- No chat mixes on PC
