Hide Your IP Address From Other People On Whatsapp
Whatsapp always stops to shock its users with new amazing features.
On the announcement 8th of November, the Meta platform announced that Whatsapp will give out a new feature in its privacy settings that will be all about the IP address. The people who complained about showing IP addresses during voice messages or video calls now don’t have to worry anymore. Whatsapp has launched a privacy feature that will hide users’ IP addresses during voice messages and video calls.
This new feature was launched so that users will get more control over their privacy settings and easily prevent unintentional sharing of their location data. Whatsapp is a very private app, so this feature was needed.
Whatsapp is a chatting app that will use your phone’s cellular or Wi-Fi connection to facilitate messaging and voice calling to anyone with the Whatsapp app. Other than messaging now, it has many features, like watching status-changing profile pictures. Recently, they also have launched the Whatsapp channel feature that will help you to interact with more people. Although that’s a way of communication, it will still deliver your message to your audience.
Whatsapp version is also available for laptops or Windows. You will get the app for free. On a laptop or window, you will get Whatsapp web.
If we talk about IP addresses, these addresses can easily convey the user’s location and help identify the internet service providers being used. If w see normal calling on Whatsapp, standard peer-to-peer calling on Whatsapp will allow both users to see each other’s IP addresses to connect the call. But now, with these new settings, Whatsapp routes all calls through its servers instead of establishing a direct peer-to-peer connection.
This is a very amazing step taken by Whatsapp. In their announcement, the major personality of Whatsapp said that “with this feature enabled, all your calls will be relayed through Whatsapp servers, ensuring that other parties in the call cannot see your IP address and subsequently deduce your general geographical location”.
This privacy feature will block all parties on call from seeing each other’s IP addresses.
Although this feature is very important, it is still an optional setting. It can be activated manually so that anyone who does not want this feature can turn it off. Whatsapp also launched a feature to block calls from any unknown numbers altogether. This feature is known as “Silence Unknown Caller”. It will reduce unwanted contacts and potential cyber attack vectors.
Both these new privacy features show that Whatsapp is trying hard to balance enhanced user security with the convenience and quality of service people expect from calling apps. The feature of hiding IP addresses will hinder inadvertent location sharing but also adds latency by routing calls through Whatsapp servers.
This new update of protecting IP addresses is rolling out now also in iOS and Android. Users can activate this setting by going to accounts> privacy > IP address.
It will give more control to the user over their information.
Whatsapp is a chatting app that always cares about the security and privacy of its users. People use this app as it is the main private app for calling and chatting. Before this new feature, people could locate anyone with just one phone call, but now Whatsapp has launched a new feature through which users won’t be able to see the location of another person on call. So now users are more secure than ever.
