iPhone Thieves Using A Simple Trick To Take Everything From You:
Apple is one of the big names that truly care about its user’s safety and private security. However, apple devices are known for their quality service providing and their useful features, so thieves who target apple products have come out with a new way of stealing products and then removing the device from apple id and making the user unable to search for it, so that they are unable to trace it and know the device’s location.
iPhone thieves who spied on a victim’s passcode before stealing it can easily reset the settings, using the passcode which makes the owner unable to access the phone.
According to a new reporter from the wall street journal, victims have reported phones, being stolen out of their hands at public places and then they found out that they have been locked out of their accounts.
In short, some bad actors with the knowledge of an owner’s passcode are simply able to reset the victim’s apple id password from the settings app. Some bad actors with the knowledge of the owner’s passcode are easily able to reset the apple ID’s password in the settings app of the iPhone.
They can turn off, the find my iPhone app, which prevents the owner from tracking their device or remotely wiping it if necessary, as well as remove other devices that are connected to the account.
They can also set up a recovery key to prevent the victim from recovering their phone.
Now the question arises, how can iPhone users protect themselves from this?
iPhone users who choose to ignore this news should understand the danger that their information is in, especially if they have a newer iPhone model. They should choose to use face ID, or touch ID in a public place rather than using a passcode to access their device.
This will prevent random eyes from looking at your phone and getting your passcode, users could also try using their hands and hiding the screen when inputting their passcode on the device. Meanwhile, in New York, some authorities have suggested face ID as a possible point of entry into phones especially if the user is incapacitated. Switching to an alphanumeric passcode is also an option and can be done in the settings app.
Apple has also claimed that they will keep on working to improve the security and safety of their users, they will keep on enhancing different features and will continue to add more that will allow their users to feel safer and more secure while being more comfortable with their handheld devices.
“We sympathize with users who have had this experience and we take all attacks on our users very seriously, no matter how rare,” the spokesperson said, they further added that such crimes do not happen that often as they require the theft of both, the passcode and the device itself, “We will continue to advance the protections to help keep user accounts secure.”
In one case, a thief opened an apple card by finding the owner’s last four digits of the social security number. One also said that she lost all of her family photos permanently. Most of the victims filed police reports and one filed an identity theft claim with the federal trade commission.
A spokesperson for Apple told the paper that the iPhone is the most secure mobile phone and that the company works tirelessly to prevent new and improved threats from emerging. Apple has been consistently working on the security of their phones and other devices, but their hands are tied on this one, as they are not responsible for the device once you buy it.
They are only responsible for the features, this is where your intuition comes in and you try to be safer than usual by trying not to share your passcode with anyone you don’t really know much about, or someone that you just met, doing this is now necessary and you have to do it if you care for your device and the data on that device.
So make sure you take the required safety precautions for your phone and make sure that you use the touch ID and face ID rather than inputting the passcode to access your device in public places, as doing so might just keep you out of any trouble approaching towards you and might save your device from being stolen.
