Today we have selected Jordan Choo for our next interview. He is the Managing Partner at Kogneta. He will share some amazing tips and strategies that he used to grow his business online during COVID-19.
First of all, how are you and your team doing in these COVID-19 times?
When COVID first hit, we experienced several clients either pausing or reducing their marketing budgets. Thankfully, they’ve been able to adapt to the situation successfully and are doing well now. Since we were a completely remote team prior to COVID, Kogneta’s operations have not changed at all, and we haven’t had to lay anyone off.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded or joined this company.
When I was younger, I was part of a mentorship program that taught me how to start and run an online business. Through it, I ended up creating a business selling ebooks on how to potty train your puppy. It completely got me hooked on entrepreneurship and digital marketing. Ever since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of companies in-house, through an agency, or as a consultant. Fast forward to now, I decided to start Kogneta in order to work for myself and follow what I am passionate about.
How does your company innovate?
We continue to invest in bleeding-edge technology by building internal tools that help us gain insights and analyze data in more meaningful ways. Recently, many of these tools have been leveraging AI, which allows us to develop and execute more advanced marketing strategies for our clients.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
We’ve seen clients pause or significantly reduce their marketing campaigns which have a direct impact on us. Thankfully we’ve worked with them to develop marketing strategies that have allowed them to profitably and predictably grow in today’s COVID environment.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Thankfully no hard decisions had to be made. What we’ve found, though, is that it is more and more important to be as lean as possible and only focus on strategies that actually work and that have a large, lasting impact on growth.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
We actively use Slack and Zoom to communicate internally and externally. Zoom has been really useful in that it has allowed us to build a stronger bond and reduce loneliness rather than hiding Slack messages all day.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Because of the work that we do, we compete with numerous different agencies. We plan to stay in the game by being revenue-obsessed when it comes to the clients we work with and investing in internal tools and automation to help our clients grow faster.
