First of all, how are you and your team doing in these COVID-19 times?
Quite well actually! We are lucky here in New Zealand to have been least affected by Covid. Our agency was well-positioned to have a setup of work from home, so this helped us adapt well to the changing work environment.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded this company?
I have been in the industry for more than a decade starting out as a programmer at the age of 16. My interest gradually leaned towards advertising and digital marketing. Being highly technical and my interest in creativity led me to start Edifian.
How does your company innovate?
Here at Edifian, we focus on connecting businesses with their consumers through culture. Our vision drives us to innovate to stand out from the competition. We have a clear vision of where we want to go as an agency and this drives us to constantly innovate and create unique experiences for our clients and their audiences.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business?
On the upside, Covid has driven more businesses to go online and so we have seen a massive surge in brands wanting to collaborate. So, it’s been quite good for us.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Absolutely! When you are challenging the usual agency model to innovate there are always difficult choices and sacrifices made. But our vision is clear so the vital lesson learned is to stay true to who we are and keep it simple.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
We work with brands both within New Zealand and internationally, so we already have a setup of tools we use to work with our international clients remotely. However, our setup changes with the needs of our clients, so we tend to be quite adaptable and go with the flow. In terms of management, it has certainly changed the way we collaborate but I’m glad we have the flexibility to adapt without any significant issues.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Our agency is quite varied in terms of what we do, so it’s hard to pin a competitor as a lot of agencies focus on a niche or specialize in an industry. Each staff in our team is creative at heart and the collaboration helps us create some really awesome stuff. I think this helps us separate ourselves from the rest.
Your Final Thoughts
I think it is important to be passionate about whatever you do and be good at it. Being curious drives creativity and the end result can be quite satisfying. This is what I have learned being in the industry
