Today we have selected Dr. David P. Marco to take his interview. He is the President Of EWSolutions. He is also a consultant & Speaker in Data Governance, CDO, Data Literacy & Data Management | CDO | Best-Selling Author | Ph.D., Fellow IIM, CDP, CBIP.
First of all, how are you and your team doing in these COVID-19 times?
We’re doing very well, thank you for asking. Like everyone, we have had to work with our client partners to adjust from a live environment to a virtual one.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded this company?
I worked with the first data warehousing ETL software company and from that experience decided to start my own consulting firm, EWSolutions focused on data governance, data literacy, and data management. We have a wide variety of offerings including industry-standard data warehouse data models, expansive training programs, and our big data metadata model. Since 1997, we have had over 155 client partners with our data governance and data stewardship practice alone.
How does your company innovate?
Great consultants are also great teachers. As such we have always had training and education as a major arm of our business. A couple of years ago we started building online, on-demand, university-grade courses that can help our client partners learn data governance but also help non-client partners get our world-class training without having to pay for an instructor. We have courses on data management, metadata management, and data literacy. Over this year we will be rolling out more data literacy courses and a series of courses on data security.
A few years ago we started a free knowledge portal and blog called Data Management University and it has been a wonderful success. We have over 20,000 people that receive our weekly articles, videos, and webinars. We’ve been fortunate that so many top data management experts post their content with us.
How the Coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
The pandemic has been so difficult for our client partners. It’s much harder to go onsite as we now have to do everything virtually. Also, many of them are afraid of a severe economic downturn. To help ease this burden we have built a brand new, never-before-seen offering in our industry: Online, automated data governance assessment. This automated data governance assessment will fundamentally change the way consulting services are delivered. We have poured over 20 years of data governance intellectual property into this service and because it’s automated it will cost companies around 87% less to conduct a data governance assessment.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Many of our competitors are no longer in business. The pandemic took too great a toll on their business model and they were not able to pivot quickly enough. I’m thankful that we had diversified our business model several years before COVID was a household term.
Your Final Thoughts
I’m excited to be in the data management field. It’s always changing and evolving which makes it a joy to go to work each day.
