Today we have selected Marc Adam to take his interview. He is the Clinician Advocate Of MASC Medical.
How are you and your team doing during these COVID-19 times?
2020 was a very challenging year for our team. Some of us experienced challenges that affected our health, our income, our family, and our friends. I would say our bond grew closer. We became more understanding of each other and we were there to support each other through these tough times. Overall, we are thankful that the pandemic didn’t affect us as much as other industries, and that we were able to work remotely, hire, leverage opportunities, and grow our business.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded or joined this company?
I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Economics.
After college, I had the opportunity to invest in a business with my brother and build up my entrepreneurial skill sets. We ran and operated PrinceReigns & Midtown Nail Bar, a beauty business that consisted of health and wellness products. I was primarily responsible for the company’s financing, marketing, and operations.
I was always interested and intrigued by the healthcare space. So, after a few years running a health and beauty company with my brother, I decided to open MASC Medical Recruitment Firm, a nationwide, industry-leading physician and healthcare staffing firm headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and with offices in Houston, TX. As the President and Owner, I’ve had the opportunity to serve 100’s organizations in staffing medical professionals to grow their footprint and better serve their patient population.
How does your company innovate?
At MASC Medical, one of our goals is to always try to innovate.
Starting with our team. We all come from various cultural backgrounds and areas of expertise, making us well diverse. We also push an open environment where everyone is encouraged to voice their opinions whether it’s regarding the direction of the organization, the people we serve, how we can improve, and even share fresh/unique ideas.
As a business overall, we prioritize listening to our clients and candidates. Whenever we get a chance, we try to get feedback on how we are doing, how we can improve, new requests they have, etc. We then take that information, strategize and see what items we can implement. Additionally, we stay on top of industry trends. This is important because it helps us understand our industry better, our customers, and our competitors more. It also helps spark new ideas in us. And lastly, we leverage technology to the best of our ability. To best present opportunities to qualified, passive candidates, we utilize ATS, digital marketing, and social media.
How did the Coronavirus pandemic affect your business, and how are you coping?
The Coronavirus pandemic affected our business in several ways. For one, the demand for healthcare staff increased. So, we quickly had to ramp up to take advantage of this opportunity by hiring additional healthcare recruiters and boosting our marketing/advertising to find more qualified candidates. Additionally, we had to make operational changes that involved utilizing technology to interview candidates and meet with clients. We also had to adapt to healthcare legislation changes to meet the current need to hire and onboard healthcare workers faster.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Yes. As a company, we had to decide what type of partnerships are most fruitful for our business. As a result, we’ve become more selective with our partnerships. There are plenty of organizations who are looking to hire professionals, but if they don’t offer a workplace that’s aligned with the professionals we serve – we decline to partner with them.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
Since the pandemic, most of our team is working remotely. We leverage G-Suite tools and Zoom for internal and external communications. Our ATS and CRM systems allow us to track communication and notes company-wide so that we can maintain continuity for our customers. These changes are nothing new for us, luckily we’ve had these processes in place prior to COVID-19.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
The industry leaders include Merritt Hawkins, Jackson Physician Search, Barton Associates, and Comp Health. These large healthcare staffing firms have acquired the most market share. There are your pros and cons when working with these types of organizations. You have some time-tested processes that allow you to benefit from their volume, but we share the same resources.
More specifically, to stay competitive, we position ourselves as a “staffing connector”, helping bridge the gap between healthcare providers and organizations. We’re more flexible than most of the larger groups, so we’re positioned to adopt a more innovative approach to bridging that gap.
We make it a priority to serve and enable healthcare organizations in providing quality patient care by leveraging technology and media to successfully attract passive candidates to fill key roles within their organization. As advisors, we focus on educating our clients throughout all stages of the recruitment process.
Furthermore, we leverage our healthcare recruiting expertise to provide guidance and market knowledge to healthcare providers seeking the next steps in career advancement. In addition to helping providers find the right healthcare job, we also partner with them and provide services such as resume optimization, interview coaching and preparation, and licensing and credentialing assistance.
We thrive in being able to personally interact with every employer and provider.
We know our strengths and the value we bring to each partner, that’s what sets us apart from competitors.
