Today we have selected Marco Ilardi to take his interview. He is the Founder/CEO of Micropedia.
First of all, how are you and your team doing in these COVID-19 times?
First of all, my collaborators and I would like to say that our families and we are fine and this is already a very important thing. In these periods of covid 19, we have not been particularly affected by the situation because being a service company with third parties, we already usually adopt teleworking as a business solution, and we already previously made connections and meetings with Meet and Microsoft Teams, as for remote assistance with Teamviewer. So apart from the unpleasant situation for us, very little has changed. I was born as a geologist and researcher at the Federico II University of Naples.
Already at university, however, I was involved in satellite surveying with marine and terrestrial geological prospecting and the development of geological software, so at the end of my university experience, switching to software programming was an almost natural step.
After leaving university, I worked for two years in IBM and then as a technical director in other small companies and founded my company Micropedia in 2015. The goal was to do something innovative from the start, all in the cloud and mobile, by integrating different platforms and websites, creating unique environments, and even integrating the Facebook pages into some cases.
How does your company innovate?
Our innovation stems from transferring to the cloud world companies that worked in an analog way by integrating mobile apps with a back-office that the customer can edit independently or allowing starred chefs such as Don Alfonso 1890 to manage the offices with a single application. of Sant’Agata, Saint Louis and Macao.
How the Coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
For us, covid was not a problem but an opportunity: we took advantage of these months of crisis in the hotel sector where we are very present with the Hotelepedia management system to develop a platform such as Microdelivery for home deliveries, a mobile app for the electronic management of queues and spacing like Coda quick and a visitor log tracking app in restaurants like tracing. App. This three software have proved to be three winning weapons in our fight against the pandemic.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Fortunately, I didn’t have to make very painful choices. I cut costs by giving up advertising expenses and thinning out my food magazine’s editorial staff, Five flavors. Apart from that, I have tried to safeguard my collaborators as much as possible.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
As I said before, the software, I have always used. Working in the cloud and remotely, tools such as Zoom, Microsoft teams, Teamviewer, and AnyDesk were already part of our daily work.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
My competitors are all the Italian companies that develop cloud software. I don’t feel like mentioning anyone in particular because this is not a challenge for me. Everyone has arrows in their bow and shoots them at the right time and in the right way.
