Today we have selected Tommy Stone to take his interview. He is the COO Of MotoCMS.
First of all, how are you and your team doing in these COVID-19 times?
I won’t conceal that it was a challenging time for our team. We had to organize an efficient workflow, and it wasn’t that easy. However, we’ve made everything possible to ensure convenient remote work and maintain an atmosphere of unity among our employees. Their comfort is the only thing I’m worried about because I don’t doubt the MotoCMS team’s professionalism. Everyone’s an expert in their field, and I’m proud of our success.
This year MotoCMS was recognized as the Highly Rated Software in Website Builder for Q1 2021 and also received such significant awards as the Fastest-Growing Software and Most Popular Software. And we would not have received these awards without a common goal, daily mutual support, professional experience, and hard work.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded or joined this company?
Demetrio Fortman founded our website builder in early 2008. At that time, Flash-powered CMS was in demand, and we broke into the market with great success. I remember how I joined the company as a Sales Manager and couldn’t even imagine what awaited me. Day by day, I worked hard to achieve better results for the MotoCMS project. Then, I became the Head of Sales and got a deeper understanding of the workflow and project overall development. I continued working for the company’s success which has always been my goal.
Now I’m leading the project. Indeed, I was ready for such responsibility. However, the COVID-19 affected the field considerably. Well, everything happens for a reason. I work with professionals in their field, and every day we do our best to provide unforgettable website creation and user experience.
How does your company innovate?
Undoubtedly, MotoCMS is a modern and full-fledged website builder. We track all the novelties in web development and Google algorithms and demands, always look for better decisions, and don’t lose any opportunity to improve our skills.
How does the Coronavirus pandemic affect your business, and how are you coping?
We didn’t expect that things could go in such a way, but we coped with all the difficulties. We are pleased that there has been no decline in demand for our products. Moreover, we’ve reached record-breaking profit rates! The coronavirus pandemic has made business owners and freelancers realize that presence on the web is essential, and adaptive MotoCMS templates with powerful functionality are their chance to survive on the market.
To make our impact on small businesses going online fast even more significant, we’ve introduced the White Label platform that allows retailing MotoCMS designs under your own brand.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Our team is a wall that is not easy to damage. For us, all the difficulties were nothing, but we’ve learned that together we have power. We believe that every tiny problem can grow into a huge one, so we solve it quickly and without mercy.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
Using such tools as Zoom and Skype has always been our reality since some employees work from home or in another city. When it comes to management, planning is the first crucial skill for me. We apply Jira and Slack tools for task management. By the way, our content marketers also use Trello not to miss a thing.
Also, communication and decision-making are of high priority. Everybody in our company knows that we can just talk concerning any question and discuss all the essential issues.
Then comes delegation, which is a driving force of the project. It is crucial to understand which task is best for a particular employee and who can perform it correctly. The well-designed system of line management also enables easier task monitoring and allocation.
And the last significant point is motivation. I always praise my team for accomplished work and write posts about our success on our internal work site, based on Bitrix24.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Today MotoCMS is among the top 20 website builders. It means a lot to me as I remember where we started. Our competitors include such tough players as Wix, Duda, Tilda, and Jimdo. Of course, every website builder has its strengths, but MotoCMS is unique. It includes all the features other platforms provide, more than 2500 fantastic website designs for any niche, but there is also something more prominent. It is the soul of the project and the enthusiasm of everybody in our company.
Your Final Thoughts
The web market is facing changes, but MotoCMS will be on top without a doubt. I just know it because I see how the eyes of our specialists shine every day.
