In this digital era, where technology permeates each and every aspect of our lives nothing is hiding from these digital technologies. I am a person who always gives high priority to privacy, and when I approached these Artificial intelligence, initially I was quite against these tools. Although many people have no problem with these AI language models, they quickly embrace the convenience offered by these technologies. Because of my cautious nature, I was quite worried as the language model is intricately linked to my email account.
Not only this, these language models are trained on a tremendous amount of data. So I was quite concerned as this language model is linked to the same account on which my email account is made, so because of my cautious nature I was worried that it might know about the conversation that I do in my emails.
I decided to explore the latest launched AI language model, Bard.
These emails contain confidential conversations with my colleagues and clients and with the company under which i am working. So I was afraid that Bard would infiltrate my emails and use them for its own purpose, and I don’t have any idea about this. An additional worry of mine was that Bard would send these email conversations to the central knowledge base where others could easily access my sophisticated information.
But thank God, this was all just my overthinking.
I explored the setting and found the statement that assures that your email will not be reviewed or used to enhance the language model AI. Reading this statement gave me a sigh of relief momentarily, but further came into my mind how can I be certain that my data is really safe and not used in-cognitively?
But, Bard offers control for people like us who maintain reservations about the potential risk associated with AI tools.
This option warns that your conversations are processed by human reviewers to improve the technology powering Bard. Do not enter anything that you don’t want to review or use.
If you click the underlying option, “ how it works”, then you will get the news that states that Your Google Workspace content, like emails and Google Drive is reviewed or used to improve the Bard knowledge.
Although Google gives us assurance that they will not use our sophisticated data, I, as a skeptic, find it difficult to be more relaxed with incoming technologies. In this fast-changing tech world where AI is getting more advanced with each passing day, it is necessary for us to keep our eyes on privacy rules and find the appropriate way so we can enjoy the cool tools and keep our privacy intact.
While using Bard, you can turn off this option to make your conversation and other data private.
If you are also cautious about this, then follow the underlying steps.
- Open the Google Bard
- Find the clock icon located at the right top of the Bard screen
- It will open the Bard activity page
- Here, turn off the Bard activity option.
- Then, you will receive the Bard Activity is Off message. Here, click on the Got it button.
Now, Bard’s activity is off. When you go back to the Bard screen, you will see the notification at the left side panel which is saying that Bard activity is off. As long as this notification keeps showing your conversation will not be recorded in the Bard model.
In short, it is the story of being cautious and making sure that digital tools not only make our lives easier but also don’t mess with our privacy. As it is the most appropriate way of dealing with incoming products in the future, we should be aware of how important it is for us to find the right balance between usage and privacy.
