Reddit recently discovered the new feature for all the Reddit IOS and Android apps out there. The new feature comes up with photographs, GIFs, and videos in a drop-down grid to assist Reddit users in finding new material and communities of user interest. You can also alter your online status, check your posts, and more in a new slideshow to the right of your profile.
In iOS and Android, the Discovered tab substitutes the Communities/Subscriptions tab as the second icon at the bottom. Other features include:
- Voting and comment count animations
- Typing and reading indicators.
- New comment pills
The company said these features would make Reddit more attractive.
Well, Let’s have a look at how these features work.
1- Voting and comment count animations
In the old feature, you’ll probably notice up and down arrows, as well as numbers next to the post. Users can upvote or downvote the posts by clicking arrows, which increases and decreases their visibility, and the number reflects the current total of upvotes and downvotes.
The upvotes on posts in Reddit were just a static number, but in the latest updated feature, it consists of non-static numbers now that show animation whenever the vote count rises and falls in real-time.
Users on Reddit can also upvote and downvote each other’s comments. Whenever users post something, they receive ‘karma’ points on their upvotes and lose ‘karma’ for their downvotes. A good post must have 10 or above karma points on their post.
Not all the communities, but some groups or communities will not let the users join the community if they hadn’t 10 ‘karma’ points. So users must have to go through the rules before joining the community.
In the same way, comment count animations in feeds and on posts get the same way, increasing as more comments on posts are shared in real-time.
2- Typing and reading indicators
In the updated feature, Reddit introduces the indicator system for typing and reading. This will help the Redditors to overlook how many people have read your comments. This will be shown only when the reader’s numbers exceed five.
Similar is the case with Typing indicators, through which Redditors knew about who and how many users are typing at the moment. These indicators will be in the form of anonymous animated icons above the comment section.
These features will excite the users to drop down the comments and discuss the post.
3- New comment pill on Reddit
Whenever any user comments on the post in Redditor, Redditors can easily access the new comment added. When the Redditors click the comment, it will be sorted out automatically and highlighted.
Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman founded Reddit, which went live on June 23, 2005. The next year, the site was purchased by the Conde Nast organization. It is based in San Francisco and has over 170 million registered users as of 2014.
Reddit is a forum for different disciplines like News, politics, religion, science, movies, video games, music, books, sports, fitness, cuisine, pets, and image-sharing are among the themes covered by user-created boards known as “communities” or “subreddits.”
Users who spend most of their time on social media must have heard about Reddit. Reddit is an American social news website where only registered users can post their content, links, articles, images, and videos. Other users then do discussions and comments on the content and vote the content ‘up’ and ‘down’ depending on the quality and information it provides to the users.
Reddit counted amongst the popular websites and ranked 6thin U.S and ranked 19th worldwide.
You can find posts and subreddits linked to a specific topic by clicking on the search bar.
For example, a search for “World Cup” yields some popular postings on the tournament as well as relevant subreddits like r/worldcup and r/sports.
Reddit is divided into over a million “subreddits,” each dedicated to a specific topic. A subreddit’s name starts with the letter “r,” part of Reddit’s URL. For instance, r/nba is a subreddit dedicated to the National Basketball Association, whereas r/businessideas is all about business.
Users can also go live with Reddit by clicking the live option on the top right side along with the search bar.
On Reddit, users cannot post videos or pictures by themselves; they cannot abide by the community’s rules.
Reddit as a whole is administered by the admins, who are Reddit employees with extensive authority over the site, including the ability to remove moderators’ rights and even block entire subreddits.
Reddit has its dialect like OP TIL, which are common abbreviations Redditors use.
TIL is for ‘today I learned’ and is the most common abbreviation you’ll encounter. OP stands for ‘original poster.’
If Users liked or enjoyed any post, they could give awards to other users to recognize and highlight posts they enjoyed. Giving an award costs Reddit Coins, which you can buy to support the community.
Purchasing Reddit Premium, the site’s membership program is another option to support the community. Premium members don’t see advertisements and have access to r/lounge. On this super-secret subreddit, Reddit’s greatest minds gather to engage in witty conversation, among other things, for $6 a month.
Premium membership also includes a recurring supply of Coins that can be used to purchase Awards. Reddit Premium isn’t required to have fun on the site, but it is a way to support the site, gain certain rewards, and be invested in the community.
Lastly, remember Reddit is a community of people who convene to share information and converse on the internet.
Remember one thing…
Be careful what you say and where you post (some subreddits are unfriendly to off-topic posts).
Reddit has become a popular hub for a wide range of issues, both good and bad, as well as specialized ones.
In addition, the community has worked to make the site more inclusive by removing explicit information from the public homepage.
