Xiaomi’s Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition: A Pair Of Smart Glasses With Gesture Control, One Switch Function To Virtual Mode, And More.
Chinese technology companies have a usual habit of getting ahead of time and leaving the previous tech standards behind and this is the case, especially with the tech giant known as Xiaomi. It has been advancing more and more in tech especially in this modern era, which is exactly what they have done once again, the renowned tech company of china, Xiaomi, has completed yet another useful project and this one gives us a peek at the tech reach of the upcoming time. While there are only a few specifications provided for their new project some features have been specified and given details, by Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun so let’s talk about it.
The new wireless AR glass discovery edition has specialized lenses that allow wearers to switch between the real world and simulations.
Apple is also set to unveil its first AR headset in June and has unfortunately pulled the plug on the development of smart glasses. Xiaomi has taken this moment as an opportunity to come forward with its exclusive wireless AR glass discovery edition. Lei Jun took some time out to talk about some of the device’s features and Xiaomi has cleared a lot of confused minds by simply talking about their upcoming product, in the heat of the moment,
Xiaomi has declared that its device will include, a lightweight chassis that will be made from carbon fiber and magnesium-lithium alloy. If you’re wondering where else you heard this material being used, it’s mostly used in making mass-producing thin and light laptops by many companies globally.
Carbon fiber and magnesium-lithium alloy are not very durable to use when compared to a Unibody aluminum chassis, both of the materials are significantly lighter in weight than aluminum and this makes the two materials an ideal choice for this product.
The specifications of this product were not provided by the CEO of this company however it is believed by many that Xiaomi is very likely to rely on Qualcomm to deliver SoCs, dedicated to fueling AR and VR experiences.
The press images show that two large cameras have been added on the left and right-hand side of the glasses model, they have also added a smaller unit right in the middle of the glasses and all three of these sensors are likely to transmit visual data along with quality image and they will be further converting the visuals captured, into simulations for the wearer of the glasses.
When this is compared to Apple’s headset, which is rumored to have about a whopping 15 cameras installed having just three on a pair of glasses might be inadequate and many people would like to see the limits of this product regarding this feature.
Xiaomi has also revealed through press images that they will be using electrochromic lenses which lets users switch between the virtual and real world at their will, this is the feature that we have mentioned above, but now let’s talk about it in detail. This “switching between worlds” can be done through a button but Xiaomi has not yet described the method that it will be using and Xiaomi’s CEO is yet to mention a dedicated button for this feature.
Another important aspect that has disappointed Xiaomi enthusiasts is their time frame, and the pricing has not been mentioned either which will be basically setting a standard for such products in the future, so it’s very likely and highly possible that Xiaomi has decided to get some eyeballs on future products that might not even materialize, and they have done this simply for the sake of the attention that this product is gathering.
In any case, this doesn’t mean that Xiaomi has blatantly taken advantage of this new tech era, however, they have taken a part in it and they have simply gathered attention on the basis of the new product that they’re planning to launch soon, which was also strategically timed, and Xiaomi went for it as soon as they saw that they had an opportunity of doing so.
The tech giant is known to work ahead of its time and release and talk about features that seem unrealistic at first but soon after, not so much. Apple is behind the competition right now but it’s also because they don’t want to roll out a half-baked product to their loyal users and buyers which sets them apart from the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi.
